CoST Ethiopia – From technical data to actionable information, new Aggregation Study launched

Between 2010 and 2016, CoST Ethiopia has applied the principles of disclosure and assurance to over 50 building, road and water infrastructure projects representing US$3.27 billion of investment. A new Aggregation Study has been published to compile, analyse and synthesise the project information disclosed and provide a comprehensive overview of the state of Ethiopian infrastructure.

CoST Ethiopia publishes three assurance reports, highlighting causes of concern in the procurement process

CoST Ethiopia has published its first assurance reports, covering three projects. The CoST assurance process interprets disclosed information to identify matters of interest or concern that could be raised with stakeholders. CoST Ethiopia attributes $13.3m cost increase to incomplete design

Incomplete and inadequate designs on infrastructure projects have led to major time and cost increases. This includes a $13.3m or 254% cost increase on the Gidabo irrigation project in central Ethiopia. This was the key finding from the CoST Ethiopia Disclosure and Validation event where over 80 participants from government and industry debated the findings

Ethiopia finalises Disclosure Standard

Guidance developed by the CoST Ethiopia MSG recommends the use of the radio as the primary channel for disclosing project and contract information. This guidance is based on an assessment of how people access information which identified that 80% of Ethiopians access information primarily via the radio, followed by TV (62%) and Word of Mouth

Capacity building support for PEs in Tanzania and Ethiopia
